Swimming Lessons

The Peterborough Recreation Department offers six levels of American Red Cross swimming lessons throughout the summer along with a Tiny Tots class an Adaptive Swim class as well as private lessons. Swimming is considered a lifesaving skill. Register your children now so they can attain this skill, which will serve them throughout their lives.
The classes meet Monday through Thursday for two consecutive weeks. Friday is reserved as the make-up day in case of thunderstorms. Class size as well as available time frame is limited (session 2 only), so please register early.
Level 5 and 6 will be combined in the same class time frame, but taught different skills. There will be a question is the registration process as to what level you are participating in.
Level 5 – Must have passed or show competency in Level 4 skills.
Skills: Expand diving skills to include shallow angle dives, tuck and pike surface dives. Tread water longer, learn to scull. Swimming of the different strokes have been expanded in the yardage needed to attain in order to pass this level. Develop maximum efficiency and endurance for strokes. Class size is limited to 12 kids per class.
Level 6 – Must have passed or show competency in Level 5 skills.
Skills: Offered during the same time level 5 is offered. Level 6 works on the same strokes offered in level 5 yet expects more proficiency and the ability to perform the strokes for longer distances.
There will be a chance for your child to be pre-tested on Thursday, June 27th, 4 to 4:30pm.

For siblings of swimming lesson participants: It will cost $5/session (for residents) or $12/session (for non-residents) for siblings of swimming lessons participants to play in the splash pad during the two weeks their sibling is taking lessons. The monies are to be paid to the bathhouse staff and they will keep track up at the pool during the lesson time. This does not apply to 2019 season's pool pass holders.
